WELL done to novices Paul Davies and Steve Woor of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) who are through to the quarter-finals of the Port Natal/Berea novice men’s pairs.

They were well down at the start of their first game, but then took 10 shots in three ends and finally won the game by a two shot margin. They were lucky enough to get a walk-through for their second game, and so will play in the quarter-finals on Saturday, 14 October at Berea BC.

John Marsh, Andy McDonald, Graham Ellis and Gustav Somers have also progressed in PN fours, so well done and good bowling to them as well in the semi-finals on Sunday, 15 October at Westville BC.

In the belated semi-final of the 2017 men’s nominated pairs John Marsh and Ian Mills beat Lofty van Tonder and Barry Bush.

Marion Crouch and Adrienne Robbins were the winners of the women’s 2-4-2 last week. Amanda Ninow and Linda McGregor were runners-up, and Joan van Rensburg and Jacqui Fouché won second session. Kathy Harding won the 100 board.

The 100 board at TGIF was won by Brian Crause. Shirley Coulter was not present to collect the attendance draw prize, and Robbie Roberts was not able to find the right key in the key draw. That means that the attendance draw is R150 next week, and the key draw will be R5,410.

Potjie day is coming up soon and promises to be a fun day of bowls with a tempting potjiekos lunch on offer as well. The format is mixed drawn fours or trips, and the winning bowls team wins R150 per person. Runners-up get R100 per person. There will also be prizes for first and second session winners. The theme is ‘Lady and the Tramp’, so have fun dressing up, and the best dressed man and woman win a prize too. Make a note of the date – Sunday, 29 October.

Entries for the women’s drawn fours closes on Tuesday, 17 October. Wednesday, 18 October is quiz night again with the erudite Greg McLeod and his lovely assistant Gwyn.

Also diarise Sunday, 5 November for the return of barflies/barefoot bowls. Invite your families, neighbours and colleagues to go along and try out the game. There will be music, fun and prizes on offer.

A and C greens are now receiving their Spring treatment and will be closed for four to five weeks, depending on weather.

The only birthdays this week are those of Shaun Sutherland and Vince Marriott, so they are wished a great year ahead.

Finally, thoughts and prayers are extended to Yvonne and the Wright family on the death of long-time bowler and ABC member Duncan Wright.
