Snowfall to cause drop in temperature

By Thursday morning, some snowfall is expected to come down into the foothills of the Drakensberg and KZN Midlands.

Don’t pack away your warm clothing just yet, cold weather is on its way.

According to www.snowreport.co.za, snowfalls will intensify during Wednesday night, in the Eastern Cape (EC), and move into Lesotho, south western parts of KZN and into the KZN Drakensberg.

By Thursday morning, substantial falls are possible in the KZN Drakensberg, EC Drakensberg, Amatole region in the EC and Lesotho, with some snowfalls expected to come down into the foothills of the Drakensberg and snow also quite likely for the KZN Midlands.

During Thursday and into Thursday evening, snowfalls will continue in Lesotho, south western KZN, EC Drakensberg and KZN Drakensberg with some light flurries in the central regions of the EC. Some heavy falls are possible in Lesotho, KZN Drakensberg and EC Drakensberg during this time.

There is a slight possibility that some light snow could also fall in the Free State during Thursday somewhere between Clarens and Harrismith, but this is subject to change as the system progresses.

There might still be some light flurries around on Friday morning over high ground in the EC Drakensberg, central EC and south western KZN, but by Friday afternoon, all snowfalls should stop.

By Wednesday evening the mercury in Amanzimtoti drops to a chilly 13 degrees. Thursday’s high is only 16, Friday 17 and Saturday 18 before the temperatures start to rise again on Sunday with a maximum of 20 degrees.
