Inaugural Amanzimtoti conservation festival hailed a hit

We estimate that throughout the day close to a thousand people passed through the gates.

Amanzimtoti’s inaugural Illovo Wagtail Conservation Festival was hailed a great success by organisers and visitors alike.

The organising committee members said the festival was a complete success and they are already brimming with ideas for the next event.

The festival was blessed with stunning Winter weather, great nature walks and talks, and fun stuff for the children to do.

Sapphire Coast Tourism proudly flew the flag in support of the event, which took place at the Illovo Business Park at the weekend.

Birders enjoy all on offer.

“I want to say a huge thank you for all the support around the Wagtail Festival,” said committee chairman, Adam Cruickshank. “The success of the event far exceeded any expectations that we had to start with.

The dinner on Friday night was sold out, which was a pleasant surprise, and Saturday’s conservation day was a hit.

It would be hard to say exactly how many came to the festival but we estimate that throughout the day close to a thousand people passed through the gates.

Almost every single talk was jam-packed, with 300 to 350 people walking the trials during the day. We had people who travelled from as far as Port Shepstone, Port Edward and even further away. We have had so much positive feedback from people who attended who said that they cannot wait for next year’s event.”
