Community projects to unite Amanzimtoti residents

For a month, starting from Mandela Day on 18 July to 19 August various projects have been created for the public to assist some of the local non-profit organisations (NPO).

THE CommUnity Project is an initiative to unite the people of Amanzimtoti to support those in need within the community.

For a month, starting from Mandela Day on 18 July to 19 August various projects have been created to assist some of the local non-profit organisations (NPO).

“Our community driven project encourages the public to invite friends, family and colleagues to get involved in a charity project of their choice,” said The CommUnity Project’s Bruce Ellis.

A group of local like-minded people are now mobilising the Amanzimtoti community to assist 10 identified charities and NPO’s with essential items needed in the everyday running of their organisations.

Organisations that are able to be assisted include Amanzimtoti Cares, AMCUP, Blanket Handout, Community Staff and Volunteers, Deaf School, Jabulani, Jonah Vaughn, Mother of Peace, Choices For Life, Red Cross Primary School, Safe House and Seed of Hope.

“The idea is to enable the local community to make a positive difference to the lives of those less fortunate in their own community by volunteering their services or donating identified items needed,” said Bruce.

The aim is to ideally do 33 projects in 33 days.

The five identified categories include:

  1. Visiting and caring
  2. Creative arts & music
  3. Practical acts of service
  4. Help the disadvantaged
  5. Sponsoring an event or project
