Athletes conquer Urban Challenge races

Twenty five athletes participated in time trials on Wednesday, 28 June.

AMANZIMTOTI Athletics Club participated in the 4km and 8km events of the Dafco Urban Challenge held on Friday, 30 June.

The longer route was reduced by 3km due to the river water level being too high.

4km: C Botha 17.57, N James 21.55, C Clarisse 25.26.

8km: M Cele 23.42 (overall winner), L Swanepoel 44.08, J Kruger 45.27, A Harris 46.59, W Gibson 28.15, C. Dann 32.17, G Duvenhage 32.32, L Symmonds 33.02, T Machado 41.05.

Upcoming race: Forest Hill 10km run/walk on 9 July at Waterfall, starting at 7am.

4km run: S Mtungua 18.07, A Clayton 19.37, E Luiz 20.08, S Msomi 21.11, B Mutanga 21.39, S Bhengu 21.44, C Clarke 23.41, R Clayton 25.37, F Clayton 25.58, B Eder 26.18, J Kruger 27.47, G Schultz 27.47, A Olivier 41.13.

8km run: P Mngadi 33.08, S Sibangu 35.10, T Dlamini 35.25, W Hoolard 39.17, E Grobler 39.17, R Sayer 48.15, N Saville 48.15.

Membership and social membership applications are still available for 2017. To become a member of the club, visit on the first Wednesday evening of the month from 6pm to 7pm. Alternatively, email toti.ac.secretary@gmail.com or visit www.totiac.co.za for membership forms.

Note that reflective belts are mandatory for time trials.

Weekly time trials are on Wednesdays at 5.30pm for walkers and 6pm for runners (both over 4km or 8km). Visitors are welcome and should meet at the clubhouse at Hutchison Park. On Saturdays there is an 11km run and walk from the clubhouse at 5.30am for walkers and 6am for runners. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served afterwards.
