Sow hope with your seed donation

The organisation is appealing for seeds to help them with a food garden.

ILLOVO based organisation, Mother of Peace (MoP) is appealing to the community to collect and donate seeds, to help make those who are dependent more self-sufficient through their educational programmes.

“Seeds are the most powerful vehicle for the kind of positive change we need to see in society,” said Iris Canham, head of the learning centre at Mother of Peace. “Our orphaned, vulnerable and marginalised communities need food security and opportunities to help them develop their potential. We are in the early stages of developing a learning centre that will have a greater impact on the community”

This year, the focus on education at Mother of Peace is Early Childhood Education. MoP appeals to the community and particularly the primary schools to collect seeds to help them with a food garden that can improve the nutrition and food security of the community they serve.
Apart from the 72 children living in the residential homes, there are an additional 44 children from 18 months to nine-years-old who attend school at MoP.

“The extent of the assistance to the children and their families is offered through education by helping them become more self sufficient,” said Iris.

There will be a Youth Day fundraiser to support education and other areas of development. The ‘Walk for Our Children’ will be held at the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre on Friday, 16 June starting at noon.

For a donation of R10, you will be allowed to participate in the walk and will be entered into the lucky draw. Bring your skottles to braai (no open fires) for a picnic, walk and a great afternoon of fun and entertainment. There are raffles circulating at local businesses with prizes that include accommodation vouchers, wine and chocolate hampers and a range of entertainment, beauty and restaurant vouchers.

Mother of Peace Illovo thanks all the sponsors of the event for their support.
