CPF mourns loss of former Amanzimtoti SAPS head

Col Mkhize's funeral takes place at Luthuli sports ground in Umthwalume on Sunday, 2 April at 9am.

Former Amanzimtoti police station commander Colonel Thulasizwe Derrick ‘Dan’ Mkhize died on Sunday, 26 March.

Col Mkhize was appointed as station commander of Amanzimtoti SAPS from 25 January 2012 until his resignation from the South African Police Service on 4 May 2015.

“I worked very closely with him, like I have with all previous and current station commanders through my role in the CPF,” said Amanzimtoti CPF PRO and eThekwini Outer South Cluster CPF chairman, Tommy Ackermann.

“Dan led the station at a very difficult time and with the utmost respect for any officer we have among our men and women in blue, many of the challenges was due to his desire to please everybody.

His heavy-handed, ‘iron fist’ leadership style was probably not the best solution at the time for the station, but his willingness and open door policy to community policing through the CPF is what we hold him in high regard for.

On behalf of the entire CPF collective, we pass on our sincerest condolences to his family and the SAPS on the loss of a fallen officer.”

Col Mkhize’s funeral takes place at Luthuli sports ground in Umthwalume on Sunday, 2 April at 9am.
