Fire extinguished at Twini industrial site

There were no injuries and the local fire brigade responded quickly.

Amanzimtoti Fire extinguished a fire at Huntsman Tioxide on Wednesday night, 1 February, with no injuries reported.

“Huntsman confirms that its site in Umbogintwini suffered a small fire in its project store on Wednesday, February 1,” said site manager, Devan Govender.

“There were no injuries and the local fire brigade responded quickly and extinguished the fire. An investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the incident.”

Huntsman no longer manufactures titanium dioxide pigment at the site, but there is still a small presence on site that continues to safely and professionally wind down the local operation.

Manufacturing ceased at Huntsman’s Umbogintwini site last year.
