CCPO network tightens around criminals

The CCPO was notified and a search of the area was immediately conducted.

Sharp work from diligent Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) members netted a number of housebreakers this week.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, 31 January a housebreaking took place at Kew Gardens in Fynn Road.

The CCPO was notified and a search of the area was immediately conducted.

The CCPO, Blue Security, ET Rapid Response and Chubb Security all responded, with the area cordoned off before the search began.

“After a while CCPO senior supervisor, Rupert Smit located the items concealed in a bush in the Arthur Howes Road area,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

“The items were taken back to the premises where they were positively identified by the owner. Unfortunately no suspects were arrested.”

Later that morning two batteries were stolen at about 5am. A Kershaw Avenue resident saw a man carrying them and shouted at him. He dropped the batteries, which were taken to Toti SAPS, and fled. “The CCPO was called and after a search we found the man, who is known to us. The owner needs to identify the stolen goods and open a case,” said Snodey.

On Monday afternoon, 30 January CCPO supervisor, Michael Mkhize was in Adams Road when he spotted a man walking past Toti SAPS.

He recognised the man, who is known to CCPO members as the same one seen in CCTV footage at the Shell garage in Ross Street where money was stolen from the shop. He was taken in for questioning as he walked past the police station entrance.

On Thursday, 26 January CCPO committee member, Paul O’Neil was driving through Warner Beach at about 8am when he spotted two men walking with a large toolbox.

He notified CCPO supervisor, Jason Hewitt who responded.

He found the men in Warner Beach and after some questioning, they took him back to a property in Kingsway Gardens in Warner Beach where they had stolen the items from.

The home owner positively identified the stolen property and the men were charged with housebreaking.
