Amanzimtoti’s top matric pupil for 2016, Kivaan Naidu placed fourth in the Umlazi region at the Umlazi District 2016 national senior certificate awards of excellence.
The Umlazi region stretches from Durban North to Umkomaas.
This is the seventh year in a row that Kingsway High has had a pupil in the top 10 in the Umlazi District.
Kivaan obtained seven distinctions out of seven subjects and an aggregate of 94% with over 90% for six of his subjects and 89% for physics.
He achieved 93% for English, 95% for Afrikaans, 93% for maths, 95% for life orientation, 98% for accounting and 95% for business studies.
In the trial exams he attained seven As.

“I was very happy with the news I had come fourth in the district,” said the likable and humble young man. “I was hoping for a good result.
My goal was to finish in the top five in the district and I’ve been told that no-one in Kingsway has finished as high as fourth, so I’m very happy with the result.”
Kivaan placed 10th in the eThekwini region, which is all the schools in the greater Durban area on Wednesday, 25 January.
His parents were understandably elated with his success. “We were very excited to hear the news,” said his father Keshen. “We were even more elated to hear he has come in the top 10 in the eThekweni region.We were expecting him to do well, so it came as no surprise to us.”
Kivaan will study actuarial science at the University of Cape Town with a full scholarship from Allan Gray.
“I wasn’t happy with my physics result, so I have sent that paper for a re-mark. I should get the result in March.
I fly down to Cape Town at the end of February to start at university and I’m looking forward to the new adventure.”
