4 Paws reflects on topsy turvy 2016

Tale continues to receive from the people of Scottburgh, Umkomaas, Craigieburn and Amanzimtoti.

FOUR Paws and a Tale reflects on 2016 as a tumultuous year which “came and left unbelievably fast”.

Founder Nicky Koekemoer described it as an amazing year on one hand, but also “one of the most heartbreaking and shocking years we’ve experienced in a very long time”.

“We lost so many of the dogs we have been feeding for years, mostly due to illness and saying goodbye is difficult. One gets to know all their little quirks and silliness and their deaths leave an empty hole which sometimes takes a while to fill. Then there was the abuse of some of these animals that shocked even the most hardy among us, such as little five-week-old Fiona who had half her leg cut off in some demonic ritual, or the young dog that was electrocuted because he chased chickens.”

The animal campaigner said the many new faces that arrived at 4 Paws’ feeding stations have allowed their volunteers “no time to mourn as the living need help and love”.

The animal NPO currently feeds 170 dogs and about 30 cats, depending on arrivals at its feeding stations – none of which would be possible were it not for the gigantic support 4 Paws and a Tale continues to receive from the people of Scottburgh, Umkomaas, Craigieburn and Amanzimtoti. “Without their support, we could never achieve the goals we have set so we say thank you to each and everyone that donated goods for the two charity shops and for the food which seems to arrive when we need it the most.”

Nicky looks forward to this new year, in the knowlegde that the support from all will continue because “that is what our communities do – they support”.

Without giving away too much, she hinted that there was wonderful news in the pipeline with regards to land but she promised to fill everyone in, in the near future.

She expressed thanks and appreciation towards everyone who donated and shopped at the NPO’s charity shops.
