SARS branches to open Saturdays ahead of tax filing deadline

Branches opening on next two Saturdays will focus exclusively on helping taxpayers to complete their income tax returns

Taxpayers who still need to complete their returns for the 2015 filing season will be chuffed to know that the South African Revenue Service (SARS) is doing its bit to ensure that taxpayers meet their tax obligations with some SARS branches extending working days to Saturdays for the next two weekends – 12 and 19 November.

With less than three weeks to go before the 25 November tax season deadline for non-provisional taxpayers, the Durban SARS branch is one of several countrywide which will operate on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. Others include Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay, Alberton, Edenvale, Randburg, Rissik Street, Soweto (Orlando East), Vereeniging, Nelspruit, Witbank, Pretoria North, Rustenburg, Mthatha, Port Elizabeth, Bellville and Mitchells Plain.

Due to the expected increase in the number of taxpayers filing income tax returns, SARS branches opening on Saturdays will focus exclusively on assisting taxpayers with the completion of their income tax returns during this period.

The branches will operate normal hours during the week. SARS has already received over 4, 7 million income tax returns.
