Charity donkey derby promises side-splitting fun

The cost is R50 per person which includes a light meal.

Take part in a donkey derby and have fun while raising funds for charity.

The Kumi Ori donkey derby evening takes place on Saturday, 29 October at 5pm for 5.30pm at St Mary’s Anglican Church in Warner Beach.

The cost is R50 per person which includes a light meal. Beverages can be purchased.

The evening will be attended by 100 to 120 guests and will be hosted in a race format, with six donkey races.

“The donkey derby promises to be a heap of side-splitting fun for all,” said Amore Venter.

“Kumi Ori Projects, a registered non-profit organisation, was founded to be an ‘instrument of renewal’.

At some stage most people wonder whether Christianity is still relevant. Can it penetrate the many areas of our lives, transform an ever-changing world and keep up with the times? We at Kumi Ori Projects believe so.

By running upliftment projects, we encourage people to become vessels of light in a dark and gloomy world.

One such project which we are super excited about is our Happening ministry programme.”

Happening originated in Texas in the 1970s and was brought to South Africa in the early 80s.

Originally a youth ministry, it was adopted in 2007 to also reach out to adults. This year marks a new milestone for Happening, as it saw the birth of the KZN adult chapter, headed up by Amore, the Happening director.

She has been actively involved in this ministry for more than 10 years, and it stands under the covering of the Anglican Parishes of St Mary’s in Warner Beach and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Amanzimtoti.

“We believe all people should have equal opportunity to attend the three-day programme. The next one is from 4 to 6 November.

Accommodation, food, equipment and various other parts of the programme require monetary help, which we are hopeful to attain from our fundraising event and tax-deductible donations.

To make this fundraiser a success, we need the support of sponsors who are willing to sponsor races, ranging from R600 to R1,000 each, or who will donate prizes.” Various options are available which includes entrance tickets, light meals, advertising boards, exposure in the programme or exposure in the local newspaper after the event.

Tickets are selling fast, so to avoid disappointment, call Lynette on 072-392-8759 or Amore on 071-670-9250 to book your tickets or race sponsorship. Alternatively, any donation towards the R300 fee per person will be welcomed.
