Kingsway bridge wall falls

A large section of the bridge wall has given way.

The Kingsway bridge over the railway tracks in the vicinity of the Adams Road intersection is displaying rain damage.

“The bridge started displaying damage after the July floods, following which we had the relevant department investigate who in turn rendered it safe for traffic,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

“The department acknowledged it needed attention that included the pedestrian walkway and wall.

This all, however has to be done in conjunction with the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL), as it owns the structural base and land directly under the bridge.

Following further rain at the weekend, the damaged increased and engineers were alerted to the danger early on Monday morning.

I am currently awaiting their report.”

A large section of the bridge wall has given way and exposed the base of where the wall and tarred road section meet.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution in the vicinity.
