Cellphone thieves throw man over N2 bridge

Tow truck driver, Bobby Hale called the CCPO

AN ELDERLY pedestrian was thrown from the Umdoni Road bridge that runs over the N2 by two thugs after they robbed him of his cellphone on Tuesday morning, 28 June.

Tow truck driver, Bobby Hale called the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) at about 11am and gave a good description of the two thugs.

Fortunately the victim landed on the embankment and rolled down to the off-ramp to Moss Kolnick Road.

“A search was immediately conducted and the area was cordoned off by the CCPO, Blue Security, Metro Police dog handler Shawn Jooste and ET Rapid Response members,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

Not long afterwards the two men were spotted by Blue reaction officer, Philani Khanyele near Iphala station, opposite Kuswag Skool. CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone approached the men from the Bernadotte Road side, leaving them no place to escape.

“The two were apprehended and the stolen cellphone found on them. The victim identified the two men and his cellphone, and they were handed over to Toti SAPS to be detained.”

In a separate incident, a would-be car thief was apprehended by the CCPO after he attempted to steal a motor vehicle in Adams Road on Thursday, 23 June. “Unluckily for him, the car had no spark plugs in at the time,” said Snodey.
