Of sharks and Sharks

There was never a thought given to sharks, unless we came across one and we never had any problems sharing the ocean with them.

EDITOR – Regarding your article in a recent edition of the SUN, with regards ‘Healthy oceans need sharks’.

It’s amazing to see the equipment available now days for anybody wishing to see that wonderful world that exists beneath the waves.

In days long gone, we were very much involved in spearfishing but our equipment was limited to a T-shirt, jeans, frog feet, a pair of goggles and a snorkel. The clothes were supposed to keep us warm in the cold Cape Peninsula seas, while offering some protection against accidental contact with sea urchins and so on. Of course also the speargun, which was a real bind to re-load when in the water.

We did most of our diving off St James and False Bay. There was never a thought given to sharks, unless we came across one and we never had any problems sharing the ocean with them.

This brings me to the real reason for this letter. Back in the late 60s and 70s, shark attacks around the Cape beaches were basically unheard of. I assume they had enough natural food to feed on and didn’t need swimmers as a side snack.

I wonder if the Silence of the Sharks people have ever looked and listened to animal communicator, Anna Breytenbach’s videos. I really think these videos are fascinating and educational. If anybody wants to see or hear her talk, look it up at www.youtube.com ‘Anna Breytenbach communicates with sharks’.

Try it – you”ll be amazed. She also has many other animal communication videos.

As an aside, the only sharks that bother me are those Cell C guys when they play Province.
