Lee-anne selected to SA youth team

Other Amanzimtoti Athletics Club athletes who have excelled at these leagues include Njabulo Khuzwayo, who is also unbeaten so far in his boys under 19 age group.

LEE-ANNE Blake, Amanzimtoti Athletics Club and Kingsway High’s 2016 national girls U16 800m track champion, made more history by being selected to her first national team over the last week.

Despite being only 15 years of age, Lee-anne was selected to a girls’ SA youth 4x800m team (ages 16 to 17) to compete at the fourth SA night series meeting in Polokwane on 24 May.

Halfway into the large greater Durban schools’ cross-country leagues schedule, Lee-anne also remains unbeaten by any girl of any age group, having won all her races with ease. All age groups compete together before age group results are separated.

Other Amanzimtoti Athletics Club athletes who have excelled at these leagues include Njabulo Khuzwayo, who is also unbeaten so far in his boys under 19 age group. Tyrique Naidoo (also from Kingsway High) has won two out of four boys under 17 age group races and finished second in the others. Tyrique also finished third boy overall on two occasions (boys U17 and U19 run together). Another Kingsway High grade eight pupil from the club, Elli Barnett, who is just 13-years-old, has shown tremendous progress by invariably finishing between 4th and 6th in the overall girls race (all ages), despite being only in the U14 age group. She has finished as first U14 girl in all the league races so far. This girl has a bright future in the sport.
