Junior members of a local gym who are enrolled in the Bully Proof Your Child programme underwent internationally-recognised Brazilian jiujitsu (BJJ) gradings.

This is the first time in KZN that youngsters were able to grade internationally with Morné Swanepoel of CombatCoaching.com gym.

“The programme prioritises building confidence for children to deal with their everyday challenges,” said Morne.

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger and heavier assailant by using proper techniques, leverage and, most notably, taking the fight to the ground and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.

BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions or self-defence.
