Toti waterpolo ace makes SA U16 team

My family and coach push me hard to never give up or quit.

A Toti water polo player has made the cut for the SA boys U16 team.

Devon Bull (15), a grade 10 pupil at Glenwood High School, will represent his country when the team travels to Malta on 5 July for the boys U16 waterpolo tournament.

“I was happy and excited to hear I have been selected for the SA team, as this is a dream come true,” said Devon.

“I started playing when I was introduced to water polo while attending Athlone Park Primary School, but I only really started to take it serious in grade 8. I’ve always loved watching the game, so when I was given the opportunity to play, I grabbed it.

My family and coach push me hard to never give up or quit. The road to success is not easy and nothing is just given to you, you have to work for it. You must want it as much as your next breath of fresh air. I had a goal and that goal was to one day make the SA team.”

Although this is the first time Devon has made a national team, he represented KZN in waterpolo last year and helped the team win the SA schools tournament in Cape Town.

“At the moment I’m not playing any other sports, as I have taken a break to concentrate on waterpolo,” he said.

Devon has made the Upper South Coast team for hockey while at Athlone Park Primary and made inter-regional as a nipper.

Before he leaves for Malta, he has to raise R39,000, but he is not letting the daunting task get him down. “This is a dream come true, so I’m very excited about going,” he said.
