UPDATE: Police probe Doonside shooting carnage

Three people are confirmed to have died and two were injured.

Police are still combing the scene of a domestic shooting at a block of flats in Beach Road, Doonside this morning, where three people are confirmed to have died and two were injured.

Shocked and bewildered family members and neighbours were milling about in the aftermath of the shootings, which are confirmed to have been related to an ongoing domestic dispute.

What is known is that the shooting took place at about 7.15am, in a flat on the second floor of Sunsands.

A man shot his wife, his brother-in-law, the caretaker of the building and another woman, before allegedly turning the gun on himself.

According to Netcare 911’s Chris Botha, the responding paramedics found five people had been shot, two of whom had died before their arrival. Another two were critical, while the fifth person escaped with a flesh wound. Paramedics tried to resuscitate a critically wounded man but despite working on him for about an hour, he was declared dead at the scene.

A critically injured woman was transported to hospital, while the man who sustained a flesh wound opted not to be hospitalized.

Contrary to speculation, there were no children in the flat at the time of the shootings.
