Six killed in head-on collision

They died on impact.

SIX people travelling in a car were killed after a head-on collision with a truck on the southbound lane of the N2 at the Umkomaas off-ramp on Sunday, 3 January at about 10.26pm.

“Reports from the scene indicate the car with six occupants was travelling towards Durban when it veered across the centre median and crashed head-on into a heavy goods truck pulling two trailers on the southbound lane of the N2,” said Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha.

“Paramedics and the fire department found the crumpled remains of the car had come to rest in the breakdown lane of the south bound carriageway about 50m from the cab of the truck with the occupants still trapped in the twisted metal.

After triaging the occupants of the car, it was established that all six tragically died on impact. Three people from the truck sustained minor injuries, one of them a small child. Medics treated the injured before transporting them to a local hospital for further treatment.”

The cause of the accident will be investigated by police.
