Bird park tea time serves greater cause

A cuppa and a cream scone or homemade muffin will cost you a mere R20.

EDITOR – The Wednesday morning tea sessions in the bird park is celebrating its first birthday this month.

It has been a most successful enterprise and Tokkie and Lynette say a big thank you to all our customers, most of whom have become regulars.

Another accolade goes to Warners Prep, which donated all the crockery to set up the venture – we do appreciate you. All proceeds from this enterprise – R9,500 during the past year – were used to buy items for the Amanzimtoti Trauma Unit (ATU), which they were not able to afford. Items donated were a lawnmower, an upgraded computer and a motor for the gate. Many other items were also brought in by the public which were donated to ATU.

In the next year, we will initially be erecting a permanent display board for the conservancy, thereafter we will support a creche in Wade Road by looking at their needs and donating the ‘nice to have but cannot afford’ items.

We look forward to an even better year now that the public have rediscovered the jewel in our neck of the woods. It is mating season for the peacocks so be sure to come along for a cuppa and witness these spectacular displays.

We are there every Wednesday morning from 9am to noon. A cuppa and a cream scone or homemade muffin will cost you a mere R20. For those who are a little hungrier, try the toasted cheese and tomato sarmies with a cuppa for R25. We hope to see many of you soon to enjoy the tranquility on your doorstep while supporting a worthy cause.
