Lions award bursaries to worthy pupils

Recipients were encouraged to study hard.

AMANZIMTOTI Lions Club hosted its first achievers awards evening for pupils from the three local high schools at its clubhouse at the Masonic Lodge in Toti on Tuesday evening, 22 September.

“We usually give the three high schools bursaries and the head decides who receives it, but most of the time Lions do not get any mileage from this, sometimes not even invited to prizegiving so we changed it,” said Lion president Carol Botha.

The recipients of the award for 2015 are Chane Myburgh of Kingsway High School, Robyn Palmer of Amanzimtoti High School and Monya Bester of Kuswag Skool.

“Each school nominates a deserving pupil for the award. The money for the bursary comes from the community via Toti Lions hosting events such as the Highland Gathering,” said Carol.

On the evening each recipient was presented with a certificate, along with the bursary which they received in the presence of their parents and respective school representatives.

“Congratulations to the recipients. The bursaries are another stepping stone. A past recipient from Kingsway High School is now studying medicine. Study hard to get where you want in life.”

The awards will now be an annual event.
