Another motorist fined for ‘expired’ disc

It is the second case in as many weeks.

YET another Toti motorist has come forward, after being issued a fine for an ‘expired licence disc’ by Metro Police.

Lindie van Tonder is just as annoyed as pensioner, Jean du Plessis who was also issued a fine for a similar ‘transgression’ on 28 July.

In Lindie’s case a fine of R800 was issued, for her VW Polo’s licence disc on 22 May which only expired nine days later on 31 May, while she was parked on Beach Road in Toti.

The offence on the fine was stated as ‘unlicensed vehicle – failure to display disc’.

It also stated the fine should be paid by 30 July. On 6 July, she met with a public prosecutor at Toti court who reduced the fine to R100.

However, she is adamant she will not pay. “It’s a matter of principle. I will disregard it, until I am issued with a final notice. Lots of people don’t scrutinise fines and just pay up. How many others were caught in a similar manner?”

She added the officers need to be retrained. “It seems they cannot read. The date was clearly displayed on my unexpired licence,” said an irate Lindie.

Jean was also issued with an R800 fine, which has since been withdrawn. At the time she was parked at Spur on Toti main beach and was fined for her licence disc, which only expired on 31 July.

“It seems as if Metro Police has to meet a monthly quota with a certain monetary value,” said Lindie.
