Keely brings home gold

Due to her performances, she received a number of call-backs from agencies, including world-renowned professional voice coach, Robert Marks.

THIRTEEN-year-old Toti vocalist, Keely Crocker returned home with a bagful of awards from New York this week, along with the Talent Africa SA team.

Keely was awarded singer/songwriter and vocal divisional winner in the 12 to 14-years-old category.

Out of the seven vocal categories she entered, she obtained three first place wins, two second places, one third place and one runner-up position. She was thrilled to place second in the Broadway category, singing ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables, which was the most hotly contested vocal category as it had the most entrants.

The US won first place in this category.

Keely’s vocal highlight was her first place win in the pop category singing ‘Not about Angels’, as she moved some of the audience to tears with her soulful voice.

“The whole trip was amazing,” said Keely. She also did a workshop with the staff of the hit Broadway show ‘Matilda’, where she learnt the dance steps and words to the song ‘Revolting’.

Keely also attended a group workshop with the New York Film Academy and was one of five people from her group to be selected to do a slate on camera. She also did a group vocal workshop with Robert Marks, and a one-on-one voice-over workshop for radio and cartoon characters.

“The experience gained was unbelievable. I saw and did so much. I want to thank Talent Africa for this wonderful opportunity and to everyone who helped me raise money to get to New York. It was the best ever,” said Keely.

He has never before done call-backs for this competition, so Keely was honoured and humbled to be the only child given a call-back from him, along with three other adult vocalists from the SA team.

She also had a second call-back, photo shoot and music video professionally done by Susan Barr Management.

Surprisingly for the singer she also got a call back from MMG Model/Talent/Celebrity Management who loved her freckles and hair colour and said freckles and natural beauty is in huge demand in America for print and commercial purposes.

Throughout the competition, the SA Team did extremely well and the judges were impressed. The Toti team, consisting of two dancers and three vocalists. also did well.
