ON Wednesday, 33 players participated in the midweek individual stableford points competition at Amanzimtoti Country Club with Martin Tait winning on 44 points, B Stephens coming second with 43 points and R Kruger third with 40 points.

Friday’s nine-hole sundowner competition had 31 players participating with N Vogel taking first on a count-out from Trix Van Rensburg on 21 points and M Halse coming in third on a count-out with 20 points.

On Saturday the men played fourball betterball bonus bogey in magnificent coastal winter weather. Winning the day on +14 was the pairing of S van Niekerk and G Vosser with M Igesund and S Moriarty winning the count out on +12 from G Vosser and A Atto, coming in fourth on +11 was K van Rensburg and I Bender. The nearest the pin on the 17th was achieved by J Vosser with the 7th proving to be elusive.

Young Janco Vogel, who is studying at a golf academy in the Cape, has been selected to represent the under 14 Southern Cape team and will be participating in the junior tournament to be held in Worcester from 8 to 10 July. Well done Janco.

The women played individual stableford points. Winning the day on 38 points was Sue Daniels with Estelle Binnekade coming in a close second on 37 points. Sue Daniels was nearest the pin on the 4th with Sue Boucher achieving a two-club on the 7th.

The second round of the women’s inter region was played in Richards Bay this weekend. Thirty-six holes are played for each round of this matchplay competition, with betterball matchplay for the first 18 holes and foursomes matchplay for the next 18 holes.

The South Coast region has two teams Umdoni and Mkhuhla. This year representing Umdoni from Toti are Brenda Morgan, Gill Symons, Elsune Roode and Lass Davis, while those representing Mkhuhla from Toti are Jacqui Porrill and Liz Donald. Umdoni won their first round matches and are in the championship division with Mkhuhla having lost their first round matches in the plate division. Both teams won this weekend in Richards Bay and are through to the respective division finals to be played at Umhlali in August. Well done and good luck for the finals.
