Knitters keep cold at bay for needy

They have made 100 jerseys for the needy in the community.

IF anyone is in need of a warm jersey to keep the chilly weather at bay, then the Knitter Natter Club will be able to help.

Club members have been clicking their knitting needles together and have made about 100 jerseys for distribution in the community.

Having started up some two years ago, the group comprising 13 women meets at the community hall in Zulweni Gardens in Toti every Thursday from 9am to noon.

“Initially, we knitted jerseys and blankets for babies which were distributed by Doctors Without Borders, but soon realised babies are not the only ones in need, but also older children and adults,” said the club’s Margaret Bubb.

As a result they have put their knitting needles to good use and created beautiful jerseys and beanies in a variety of colours. “A knitting machine donated by Donny Cocroft has allowed us knit a lot more items.”

Members enjoy getting together as it is not only an opportunity to do something good for others, but to socialise among themselves. “We laugh, chat and have tea and cake. We love getting together, we are doing something for someone in need.”

Most of the wool currently used is bought by members, however, if anyone is able to donate wool, it would be appreciated.

If anyone would like to join the club or needs a jersey, contact Margaret on 074-500-1273.
