DNA links rape accused to Toti case

The man has been denied bail.

A 28-YEAR old man was arrested after being linked via DNA evidence to a rape and house robbery which occurred in Toti two years ago.

“On 19 February, the suspect appeared in Umbumbulu Court on a rape charge, which occurred in KwaMakhutha. He was linked through DNA to the Toti case,” said Toti SAPS communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

During the Toti incident which occurred on 19 February 2013, a woman was alone at home when three men kicked down her front door. The men raped her, robbed her and fled. A case of house robbery and rape was opened and investigated by Toti detective, W/O KD Zungu.

The man has been denied bail and will re-appear in court on Thursday, 12 March for a regional court date to be set.

Further investigations revealed the man’s accomplices have since died.
