UPDATE: Oil slick disperses off Toti

THE suspected oil slick, photographed at 12.36pm, just off Toti main beach appears to have dispersed in the sea, south of Inyoni Rocks at a depth in line with the shark nets.
“As aquatic safety was unable to draw water samples, we are left to speculate that the slick could have originated from an accidental pipeline discharge that was in turn treated, hence the quick dispersion,” said ward councillor Andre Beetge in a Facebook post.
A full report is being compiled for the benefit of Department of Environmental Affairs, which will investigate.
