Roadside angels were heaven-sent

We have been overwhelmed by the kindness, generosity and trust shown to us by all concerned.

EDITOR – On Friday, 27 February while traveling down to Toti through Umbumbulu, we hit a large pothole resulting in two flat tyres.

The one was replaced with the spare tyre so we sat on a Friday evening at 5.30pm with everything closed and only three usable tyres.

That was when Archie Mariken stopped to assist us. He and his passenger, Sifiso Temba, took us to his cousin’s tyre depot at Folweni, a Dunlop Centre container next to the road, which confirmed that my tyre was beyond repair. Archie took us back to our vehicle which was parked next to the main road and guarded by two bystanders, and tried his spare wheel which was a different size but the holes corresponded with mine.

Archie lent us his spare tyre which got us to Toti safely. After repairing ours on Saturday, Archie even came to Toti to collect his spare. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness, generosity and trust shown to us by all concerned but especially Archie and Sifiso, who not only went the extra mile, but did a number of extra miles and gave of their time so unselfishly. We are extremely grateful and thank God for undertaking for us in such an amazing way.
