A hijacked VW Golf GTI was not recovered.

TOTI detectives are investigating a case of hijacking, after a white VW Golf GTI was stolen in Kingsburgh on Thursday, 4 February at about 9.30pm.

“The vehicle used by the perpetrators, a white Toyota Corolla, and the Golf were spotted by an informer at a house in Adams Mission soon after the incident. Toti SAPS and Metro Police were alerted. When the suspects saw police, they sped off in both vehicles on the M37 towards the R603,” said Toti SAPS communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

A chase ensued and along the M37, the driver of the Corollo lost control and landed in a ditch. “Two people got out and fled on foot. The Golf got away. It was not fitted with a tracking device.”

The Corolla was recovered by Toti members, Csts Sandile Mbongwe and Babalwa Ndabeni and Metro Police officers, Zwelakhe Ntombela and Stembiso Mfayela.

The vehicle was booked in as an exhibit and will be taken to the Isipingo pound for forensic investigation.
