He climbed out of the car to relieve himself and stood on a live wire and was electrocuted.

Kingsway High School old boy, Louis van Wyk (59) died in a freak accident on Saturday, 31 January after being electrocuted in Margate.

According to his long-time friend, Glynn Denton-Cooke of Uvongo, Louis and his wife, Caron were waiting for a friend in their vehicle on an off-ramp of the N2 near the informal Masinenge settlement when he climbed out of the car to relieve himself and stood on a live wire and was electrocuted.

His death is cause for investigation.

Louis was born in Toti and grew up in Doonside. He lived in Cape Town, before moving to Margate about 20 years ago.

Glynn, who went to junior school with Louis, described him as “a decent man”. “He was a good guy and a good friend of mine for over 50 years,” said Glynn. “He didn’t harm anyone.”

Louis is survived by his wife Caron. The couple had no children.
