Beware fireworks ban in public places

Street vendors are not permitted to sell fireworks and it is illegal for fireworks to be detonated on the beach or in any public place.

Visitors and locals are reminded that Toti has been declared a fireworks free zone over the festive season.

“We have so many distraught animals in our town that hate fireworks, as well as too many individuals who spend their own personal time helping out these poor animals when they go absolutely crazy in response to the fireworks,” said Lee Lewis of Fireworks Action Campaign Toti (FACT). “We need to stop this.”

Be warned – street vendors are not permitted to sell fireworks and it is illegal for fireworks to be detonated on the beach or in any public place.

“Metro Police are mandated to enforce these bylaws. If you see anyone letting off fireworks, report perpetrators to the Metro Police on 031-361-0000 or 031-910-7321 and insist on a reference number. Send a follow-up email to totifireworks.campaign@gmail.com, so that we can accurately record how many complaints have been logged.

Wherever possible, advise offenders who are letting off crackers that it is against the laws in our town and that fireworks may only be used at midnight on New Year’s Eve. However, do not argue or get into an altercation with offenders, but rather educate and ask for their assistance in not making Toti become a warzone and let others know that Toti does not support fireworks.”
