Plumbers’ attempted extortion is deplorable

It is disgraceful that workers who are fortunate enough to have employment should do this to people who have little and are struggling for the basics of a decent life.

EDITOR – Our gardener applied and paid for a water connection, and rang today to say that they were about to install his meter.

However an hour later there was another desperate call to say that he needed to pay another R250 as the length of pipe was more than anticipated.

I phoned Metro Engineering Services who advised that there is never any money to be paid to the plumbers doing an installation. This is attempted extortion.

It is disgraceful that workers who are fortunate enough to have employment should do this to people who have little and are struggling for the basics of a decent life. We need to make as many people as possible aware of this situation, which is occurring in our local rural areas.
