Angelique’s beauty and passion shine through

Beauty queen to wing her way to Orlando in June.

A Toti model was crowned Miss Teen KZN at the weekend.

Angelique Janssen (18) of Athlone Park won the pageant, hosted by Role Models South Africa at the Gateway Hotel in Umhlanga on Saturday night, 22 March.

She also won awards for senior best interview and overall philanthropist, in acknowledgement of her community service.

The judging criteria included personality projection, confidence, leadership qualities, communication skills, natural exuberance and beauty.

“I was very surprised to win the title,” said Angelique. “I thought my interview was a fail as I forgot my introduction. I was not particularly nervous, as I enjoy being on stage.”

Miss Teen KZN is not just a pretty face, but must prove she is involved in community and charity work. “She must basically be beautiful with a passion to help others,” said Angelique. “I’m very excited as I have a charitable heart and I love to help.”

Angelique, who is coached by LeMari Smit of Upstage Models KZN, is part of Childline KZN’s anti-bullying campaign and the KZN beach clean-up with People Investing in Needs of Communities (PINC). She was also instrumental in Kuswag Skool donating desks and chairs to an Umlazi school recently.

As Miss Teen KZN, she can now judge and host beauty pageants, make appearances at events and use her title to raise funds for charity and her community.

She has also qualified to participate in the annual three-day Mzantsi Africa Role Models and Ambassadors national pageant in December. At this event, the ‘creme de la creme’ from all over SA come together to compete for the title.

However, for now Angelique is concentrating on wowing over 100 scouts representing the world’s top talent agencies when she struts her stuff at the International Arts Talent Showcase in Orlando, US in June. She won this incredible opportunity when she made it through to the Summer Heat Model and Talent Search finals at Montecasino in Johannesburg last October.
