Illegal guns confiscated in Folweni

A 43-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in possession of illegal firearms in Folweni in the early hours of 4 September.

He appeared in Nsimbini Magistrate’s Court on the same day where he was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms.

“At about 1am, members of the Folweni crime prevention unit were patrolling when they received information about illegal firearms, which led them to a house in the area. The house was searched and three unlicensed firearms were recovered, a pistol, a homemade firearm and a revolver. The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in criminal activities,” said KZN police media spokesman, Capt Thulani Zwane.
Provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended members for the recovery of the unlicensed firearms and arrest.

“These are lethal weapons and by removing them from circulation members have certainly prevented potentially violent crimes from being committed and the possible loss of innocent lives. I urge members of the service to make optimal use of the Crime Intelligence Services to get information on criminals who are in unlawful possession of firearms. We must not rest until every single unlicensed firearm is removed from circulation,” she said.
