Amanzimtoti coach takes Mauritian fighters through the ranks

Morné Swanepoel has been tasked with taking budding athletes through to the professional ranks of mixed martial arts and jiu-jitsu.

AMANZIMTOTI’s Morné Swanepoel has been named technical director and head of strategic development at the Mixed Martial Arts Federation Mauritius (MMAFM).

In his official appointment letter, the president of MMAFM, Avinash Ramtohul, said, “His professionalism and commitment will be of high value to the development of mixed martial arts in Mauritius.”

Swanepoel, who has been in the sport for almost 30 years, said he was honoured to have his years of experience and effort recognised.

On top of coaching amateur and professional athletes at his gym, his newly appointed role is to take budding athletes in Mauritius through to the professional ranks of mixed martial arts and jiu-jitsu.

“They’ve brought me on board to head the national team so they can compete and succeed in international events. During my two visits, I’ve been hosting training courses for coaches, as well as seminars and sessions with fighters and students,” he said.

Most recently, two of the athletes he is coaching received silver medals in their respective divisions at the IMMAF – International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Africa Championship.
