Sholeen Brijmohan, who is a member of the forum said she prepared five questions which in return the few chosen women answered, offering advice, words of encouragement and inspiration to other women. Some of the women that have been highlighted since the beginning of the month are Sweetie Pillay from Lotus Angels, Surentha Govender of Being Helping Hands, Candice Chetty of Touching Hearts, Mel Singh from the Jems Foundation, Jane Lazarus of Hands of God, Melissa Jay Moodley, Analize Pillay, Jennifer Samson from the Care Network, Jasmin Singh of Scarlett Thread Ministries, and Priscilla Govender from Seva Bhakti.

“The forum is hoping that these highlights encourage community participation and assist in social projects. We want to allow the community to get to know these incredible women and their contribution to making Isipingo whole again,” said Sholeen.

The chairperson of the forum, Melisha Gounder, said they feel proud of the women in the community, which is why the project is to enlighten the community about the amazing work they do.

“Very often their work goes unnoticed, but we wanted to change this narrative and appreciate them,” said Melisha.

She added that the women’s forum’s purpose is to elevate women and build a network of women helping each other. The forum will be highlighting more phenomenal women throughout August and posting their stories on its Facebook page to commemorate Women’s Month.
