Papas Hope Organisation gives back to the community

The first annual event included sports and performances by musicians, as well as a house handover to a nominated community member.

PAPAS Hope Organisation, a non-profit based in Umgababa, held its first annual Khuphuka Mnini at the Umnini Sports Centre recently.

There was plenty to see and do at the fun-filled launch. The organisation’s founder and chairperson, Papas Luthuli, said the day’s activities included a fun run, soccer and netball, as well as performances by local and renowned musicians such as Bab’ Phuzekhemisi, Tzozo, DJ Menace, Madlala (Madlala Funeral) Shemza and many others.

To add to the day’s festivities, a house was handed over to a nominated community member who was affected by the floods a few years ago.

“The house was built by our organisation with the help of local businesses such as Umgababa Hardware, Wozekhaya Hardware, Omar’s Hardware and many others. We have also been receiving food parcels from various stakeholders in and around our area which we then distribute to members of the community,” he said.

Luthuli added that all their community upliftment projects come from their own pocket, and he is therefore appealing to businesses and the public to come on board by either donating or offering sponsorship.
