PHOTOS: Three non-profit organisations benefit from trolley dash

The 60-second shopping spree saw participants dashing through the aisles and grabbing much-needed items.

EMOTIONS, excitement and balloons filled the air as three non-profit organisations (NPOs) received over R100 000 worth of items at a ‘Trolley Dash for Charity’ on June 20.

The highly anticipated event, hosted by Arbour Crossing Retail Centre and Crazy Plastics, was a thrilling shopping experience for a great cause.

The beneficiaries were the Amanzimtoti SPCA, Elders’ Voice and Seed of Hope.

Galleria Mall and Arbour Crossing Retail Centre’s marketing manager Anusha Timul said participants had the unique opportunity to embark on a 60-second high-speed shopping spree, dashing through the aisles of Crazy Plastics, filling their trolleys with a variety of essential goods.

The selected NPOs were paired with Kurt Hoggan (general manager of Arbour Crossing Retail Centre), Shereen Maharaj (the SUN sales manager) and Styles Mbatha (East Coast Radio show host), creating an atmosphere of collaboration and shared purpose.

Hoggan said, “We were ecstatic to organise this unique event that will bring joy and support to our community. The Trolley Dash for Charity embodies our commitment to uplifting NPOs and amplifying their impact. It’s a wonderful opportunity for individuals to have fun while knowing they are actively making a difference in the lives of others.”

Timul added that their admirable work in areas such as education, sustainability, animal welfare and caring for the aged relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses alike.

“This event serves as a powerful catalyst for philanthropy, uniting the community and making a lasting impact on those who need it most. Through innovative initiatives and events, we strive to uplift our community, create lasting change, and inspire others to join us in making a difference,” she said.

Amanzimtoti SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said it was an amazing, blessed donation and opportunity. “It’s a lifeline for us because we are struggling financially with few donations coming in,” she said.

A teary-eyed Jo-ann Herbst of Elders’ Voice said she was overwhelmed and humbled. “It’s more than we would ever be able to afford in a month,” she said.

Seed of Hope’s Nozipho Dhlamini, accompanied by co-founder and chairperson Heather Liebenberg, as well as its Simunye afterschool programme facilitator Mkhungo Nokwazi, said they were grateful and thankful for the opportunity.

“Many children don’t get to celebrate birthdays, and this is a perfect way to honour them on their special day. The sweets, stationery and arts and crafts goodies will also come in handy for our holiday programme,” said Dhlamini.
