Brijmohan’s accused murderers to appear in court again

Some of those charged with the murder of Sunil Brijmohan are said to be planning to plead guilty.

THE murder case against men who were arrested for the murder of Sunil Brijmohan has been moved to Wednesday, June 14, at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court.

Brijmohan, who was a Ward 90 councillor in Isipingo for a number of years, was shot and killed in Amanzimtoti on his property in October 2022. A surveillance video of the incident showed two men walking towards Brijmohan. As he turned and walked to meet them, he was shot at point-blank range in the face and body, dying at the scene.

The suspects were arrested in January and made their first court appearance on the 17th of the same month and have been postponed a number of times since then for various reasons, including further investigations. Four men were arrested for the murder and two applied for bail while the other two opted to attend their trial while in jail.

Raymond Sakloo, who is a community activist and one of the people who were close to Brijmohan, said the court had sat for the case on Friday, June 2, when it was postponed to the 14th.

“The state prosecution team advised the court that the two of the perpetrators plan to plead guilty to the murder, but our main concern is that the individual who planned, organised and financed the killing of Sunil has not been arrested. These perpetrators who were charged were just carrying out instructions of the masterminds behind his killing,” said Sakloo.

He called for the residents of Isipingo and the rest of Ward 90 to stand together and demand that the police find and arrest those who planned the murder.
