Amanzimtoti police station launches Youth Desk

Those aged between 18 and 35 are invited to stand for election and serve on the committee that aims to identify and prevent youth violence and crime.

THE Amanzimtoti police station will be implementing the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, and invites residents between the ages of 18 to 35, to stand for election on June 10.

Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum’s public relations officer, Estelle van Eeden said, “The Youth Desk exists to encourage and enable young people to participate actively in identifying the causes of youth violence and crime, and to collaborate in creating social crime prevention strategies for their communities.”

Van Eeden said residents in the required age group are invited to attend an AGM where representatives will be elected to serve on the executive committee in a voluntary capacity.

The meeting will be held at the police station’s lecture room on June 10, at 10:00.

The elected members will voluntarily serve their communities by: Assisting in identifying safety needs of youth, developing and implementing programmes to address identified safety needs, enabling youth to act as good citizens and role models, and empowering youth in crime prevention, as well as communication, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills.
