PHOTOS: Car show and market held in Toti CBD

The car show thrilled car enthusiasts and helped raised funds for two non-profit organisations in Amanzimtoti.

THERE was a fun-filled family market and car show at The Square in the Amanzimtoti CBD on May 6, in a bid to entertain residents, uplift the town and assist non-profit organisations.

Aside from giving car owners an opportunity to showcase their car in a bid to win prizes, while thrilling car enthusiasts, the car shows help raise funds for two deserving charity organisations, namely Operation Bobbi Bear and the Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare.

The organiser and business owner, Clayton Whitaker, said these organisations do so much work in the community, without funding, so he wants to give back to them. “We managed to raise R3 245 for each,” he said.

About 100 cars were entered into the show and shine, sound-off, park-off, glow-off and low-limbo categories. There was R10 000 cash prize for the loudest sound-off car – R10 000 that was to be split between different categories, as well as trophies and sponsored vouchers.

The Amanzimtoti CBD rooftop was abuzz on Saturday, May 6.

PT Alarms, also a sponsor, joined hands to uplift the community. Its fire and safety team were out in full force, while also displaying the company’s head-turning sports cars.

Whitaker said, “The turnout was spectacular. We would love to see more classic cars entered into the next show.

“There was also the weekly New Time Market in addition to the car show, with plenty of fun activities for the children, stalls to browse through and entertainment to enjoy.

“The market, hosted by Mug & Dine and Wanderers Haven, also helps generate funds for the non-profit organisation’s place of safety and general upkeep in The Square.”

He thanked all the event’s sponsors and appeals for more businesses to come on board to make events bigger and better.

The New Time Market takes place every Saturday, from 09:00 to 15:00, and every last Friday of the month, from 17:00 to 21:00. To book a stall, contact Sharon Swanepoel on 084 222 1819.
