Amanzimtoti Golf Club set for tee-off

On March 25, the club will be hosting a gala opening to celebrate the milestone and tee-off.

THE much anticipated reopening of the 18-hole golf course at the Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy is a reality, now that the new bridge is complete.

As of today, March 17, the new bridge is fully operational, and the full course will be available for all to enjoy.

Greenskeeper, Louis Steyn said, “It’s a dream come true. We never thought we could get the clubhouse and course back to its former glory after the floods destroyed it all last year. But, a few people made a decision to put in the work and go for it. Being able to now stand on our new and improved bridge gives a sense of satisfaction because we did it.”

The club’s members said the place is back to normal but better than before.

Club captain Mike Halse said, “It was a team effort to make it a successful operation. With the help of the clubhouse’s income, club members, donations, the community, businesses, fundraising events, and loans, we were able to purchase the R3.5m bridge. We are grateful to those who helped financially and physically towards the rejuvenation of the golf course and clubhouse.”

Steyn added that anticipation has been building among club members and golfers outside the area to be able to play the full 18 holes. “Before, we had to play the nine-hole twice. At the moment, we are busy leveling the ground and planting grass. However, this will be complete soon and doesn’t affect play.”

The club’s members said their goal is to be the best golf course on the South Coast, a place for golfers to come and enjoy their time. In turn, it will help generate more funds to help pay off debts.

On March 25, the club will be hosting a gala opening to celebrate the milestone and tee-off.
