Toti Athletic Club members take on qualifier race

The club had 13 members qualify for the Two Oceans and Comrades. It also had four new members complete their first marathon, three of which qualified.

THIRTY-THREE members of the Amanzimtoti Athletic Club (ACC) took part in the Hillcrest Marathon on February 12, as a qualifier for the Two Oceans and Comrades Marathon.

The Hillcrest Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by Hillcrest Villagers Athletics Club that offers a 21.1km and 42.2km race through the suburbs of Hillcrest and Winston Park.

Of the 33 members that participated, 19 completed the marathon distance of 42.2km and 14 the half-marathon distance of 21.1km.

The club had 13 members qualify for the Two Oceans and Comrades. It also had four new members complete their first marathon, three of which qualified.

The club’s captain, Warren Gibson, said it was a very hot day, however, most of the race was in the shade, through a tunnel of trees. He added that the event was well-organised.

Despite a successful day for most, there were no podium positions.
