Amanzimtoti High’s top matriculant aims to make a difference

Her greatest achievement is that she was able to have a fun matric year while still being able to achieve the results she wanted.

KATELYN MacKinnon, Amanzimtoti High School’s best achiever in the school’s Class of 2022 matriculants, will be studying further to help others and to make a difference.

Katelyn said her matric year was busy, but it was the best year of her high school career. She said, “I loved participating in normal school activities after two years of Covid. I am very happy with my results; I feel that they represent all of the work that I put in. They are everything I was praying for.”

She said her greatest achievement is that she was able to have a fun year while still being able to achieve the results she wanted. Being able to participate in the school musical was the cherry on top for her.

“My study routine is very flexible, and I really tried to balance it with exercise and rest. My biggest advice to this year’s matriculants is to be consistent. You need to be working consistently throughout the year – this will help relieve a lot of stress as well as help make room for rest and fun. I would also recommend that you make the most of your weekends,” said Katelyn.

This year, she will be studying occupational therapy at Stellenbosch University while working a part-time job at a school. “My goal for the future is to get my degree so that I can help people and make a difference in the world around me,” said Katelyn.

She thanks her teachers and peers for helping her on this journey. “I also want to thank my family, especially my dad, for being my real-life hero, and my mom for being a pillar of strength. I also want to honour God because I could not have come this far without Him,” she said.
