Cricketers feel the heat as fixtures resume

Despite the extremely hot weather, Amanzimtoti Cricket Club's teams scored some good results against their opponents.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s (ACC) teams resumed the season’s fixtures on January 15, in extremely hot weather conditions.

ACC first team played against Berea Rovers on the Toti Oval. They are currently playing in the Premier League 50-over league. ACC won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 242 for 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

The runs were scored by Jarryd Michaux (15), Dale Kinsey (46), Corné Nel (47), Sagel Rajakumar (33), Gareth Lonie (40) not out and Tegan Naidoo (40). Berea Rovers scored 147 all out, ACC winning by 55 runs. The wickets were taken by Jarryd (4), Sagel (1), Gareth (3), JJ Fourie (1) and Dylan Labuschagne (1).

Director and first-team coach Frank Ferreira said, “Our hard work and belief in our game plan and structures are starting to reflect in our results. This result will give the team much-needed confidence going into the rest of the season.”

The second team played a 50-over match against Chatsworth Sporting 2 on Toti 2. ACC batted first and scored 232 runs all in very hot conditions. The top run scorer was Jordan Bryan with 74 runs. ACC managed to bowl Chatsworth Sporting out for 146 runs in just 23 overs, winning the game by 86 runs. The wickets were taken by Kyle Bryan (2), Jareth Praschma (4) and Tiveshan Naidoo (3).

Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s second-team batsman, Reghardt Smit, hits the ball bowled by Chatsworth Sporting.

The third team, on the other hand, played a 30-over match against Delta 3 at Bayview. Delta batted first and scored 208 runs all out. The wickets were taken by Francois Strydom (1), Bradley Naidoo (2), Thabo Mdlalose (1), Joash Pather (2) and Clive O’Reilly (4). Unfortunately, ACC only managed to score 138 all out. The top run scorers were Thabo and Joash.
