Toti SPCA receives donation ahead of festive season

The Umbogintwini Dog Training Club donated dog and cat food and animal toys to the Amanzimtoti SPCA to help them through the busy festive season when they receive lots of animals in their care.

THE Amanzimtoti SPCA recently received a much-needed donation of pet food from the Umbogintwini Dog Training Club, as they head into their busiest time of the year.

The SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said the club wanted to do a year-end donation as they know the animal shelter struggles this time of year. “We get an influx of surrendered animals due to bad circumstances and so forth. We also get a lot of kittens and puppies as it’s breeding season,” she said.

Hannan added that with the club being huge animal lovers and big pillars within the community, they wanted to assist during the difficult time. “Thank you so much for this generous donation. We are so appreciative of this kind gesture as it will make a huge difference,” she said.

Food and cash donations towards their Doggy Dinner Christmas Fund assists them with their inevitable increase in expenses during the festive season.

Hannan said, “We will also be getting an influx of strays due to fireworks and festivities over the new year. Also, a lot of people go on holiday and leave their pets in other people’s care. Unfortunately, a lot manage to escape and eventually end up in our care.”

The SPCA appeals for donations of wet and dry cat/kitten and dog/puppy food and toys for their animals, as well as donations towards their charity shop.

“If you’re spring cleaning, consider donating your unwanted items in good condition to us. A lot of people like to buy gifts for family and friends, and it in turn generates an income for us,” said Hannan.
