Some South Coast beaches close yet again

Some beaches are closing again due to high E. coli levels.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has announced that Umgababa, Warner Beach, and Reunion beaches have been closed for swimming as a precautionary measure after recent tests indicated a high reading of E. coli bacteria.

The beaches had been opened at the beginning of November after eThekwini said the bacteria levels were within an acceptable range.

Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said Amanzimtoti Main and Pipeline beaches remain open. “Winklespruit also remains closed with both Warner Beach and Reunion beaches closed due to inconsistent water-quality results,” said Beetge.

The Umgababa swimming pool, however, remains open to the public.
