Amanzimtoti SPCA appeals for donations

Find out how you can help the Amanzimtoti SPCA care for their animals until they are adopted.

THE Amanzimtoti SPCA is appealing to the community for donations of much-needed tinned pet food and items to sell at their thrift shops.

After the SPCA’s adopted, surrendered and euthanised pets statistics were published in the SUN’s July 29 edition, they have had some monetary donations come in. Toti SPCA’s manager Tracey Girling said they also had five adoptions on Saturday, July 30, which was awesome.

“The article really made members of the public aware of the number of animals we deal with on a yearly basis – a lot of people have been speaking to us about the statistics,” she said.

They are, however, still in urgent need of dry food and wet tinned food for the dogs, puppies and cats in their care, as well as donated items to sell at their thrift shops. “Our three shops help generate much-needed funds to help us keep our doors open,” said Girling.

Their wishlist items include bric-a-brac, household goods, garden utensils, kitchenware, pots and cutlery, linen, bathroom ware, clothing, shoes, handbags, camping equipment, garage tools, furniture, books, toys and puzzles, as well as DVDs, CDs and LPs.

They ask that no broken or soiled items be donated. “Thank you for your continued support. Your donations make a huge difference to so many animals’ lives,” said Girling.

Food can be dropped off at Dr Hoole Doonside Vet or the SPCA’s food bins at Pick ’n Pay Hyper Arbour Crossing and Kingsburgh. Alternatively, donations can be dropped off at one of their thrift shops: At their premises, 1 Nyati Road in Athlone Park; 115 Kingsway Road in Warner Beach; 3 Scott Street in Scottburgh.

Monetary donations can be made into the following bank account: Amanzimtoti SPCA, First National Bank, Galleria Branch, Bank Code: 220127, Account Number: 62807184552, reference: food/surname.
